Unique Catch Up Ideas for You and the Gals in Your Life

March 08, 2020 by Jennifer Anson

Here at GG we love spending quality down time with our girlfriends and understand that finding a fun or unique activity to catch-up over can be a challenge! That is why we have listed our fave girl’s get-together ideas for you to try, with a focus on valuing your friendships and sisterhoods to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD).

 DIY Activities

1.     Picnic Date

Grab four of life’s essential necessities- friends, wine, cheese and a fresh baguette and soak up the surrounds of your local park, headland or beach for the ultimate picnic date.

2.     Movie night celebrating women in film

Perfect for a cosy winter evening, get the girls around for a movie night! Why not support IWD by celebrating women in film through watching a movie with a female director or majority female cast, such as Oceans 8 or Hustlers. If you don’t have the space at home for all the girls, head to an outdoor cinema for a beautiful sunset screening (where you may even be allowed to bring your dog along!!)

3.     Crafternoons with Crockd

Spend an afternoon at home getting crafty with your girlfriends with at-home pottery kits by Crockd. The pack includes all your needed utensils and materials, plus ‘clay-breaker’ cards to encourage checking in with each other and having a clear mind.

4.     Cooking Class

Learn new skills in the kitchen with a cooking class with your BFF’s! This is a great activity for you to mix up your normal dinner routine, with Melbourne’s Relish Mama an example of a business offering a large variety of delicious classes.

5.     Shopping Day

Every woman needs a little retail therapy every now and then, so why not invite the girls along and make a day of it! Mix it up with chic boutiques, local markets or a shopping centre that’s not your usual go-to… and maybe even surprise your girlfriend with a gift to show how much you value your friendship.

Other Unique Activities

1.     Treat yo’ selves day

It’s time for some pampering with your BFF’s, so head to your local day spa for a relaxing massage, facial or manicure. For those looking for a fresh new-do, try out a Hair Blow Out Bar for some relaxing down time whilst you’re treated to new luscious locks! Some of our faves are Blown Lux Bar in Sydney and The Blow in Melbourne.

 2.     Cocktail Class

Happy hour is calling… so this time why not enjoy some laughs with your BFF’s as you create your own cocktails with the help of an expert bartender at a cocktail class. This is a great way to kick-start a night out with the girls!

 3.     High Tea

Gather your girls for a day out with a touch of class! High tea is a great activity for you to catch-up and devour sweet and savoury treats over a cuppa or maybe a glass of sparkling. Our fave option in Sydney is the Tea Rooms at QVB and our Melbourne go-to is the Chocolate High Tea at The Langham.

 4.     Visit the Lip Lab

Try your hand at creating your very own personalised lipstick at the Lip Lab in Sydney! For IWD, it is also a great present idea for a girlfriend with an upcoming birthday or just to show how much you value your friendship. Here you can customise the shade, flavour and smell- our fave being the Pink Champagne scent.

 5.     Take part in a charity run

Get your legs moving with a fitness activity that all girls’ can join in on! For example, support the Pink Hope charity by taking part in their #TeamPinkHope fundraising squad in the Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon 2020. This charity supports women affected by breast and ovarian cancer, making this a great activity for you to support IWD and your local community.

6.     Sip your way through a wine tasting

There are many beautiful wine regions around Australia and the world, making it so easy to experience a wine tasting amongst the vineyards with your best vino-lovers. Plus, if you opt for a full day wine tour, they will usually treat you to a delicious lunch, 4-5+ winery stops and more!

 7.     Head to a women’s sporting match

There is no better way to show your support for our talented women in sport than to cheer along at a sporting event! Watch our Aussie Matilda’s on the soccer field or support the women’s events at the Australian Open, but either way if you can’t make it to the grounds, invite the girls over for a night-in supporting in front of the T.V.

8.     Sing your heart out at karaoke

Test out your vocal chords and enjoy a fun night out as you embrace the singing abilities of your closest friends…and maybe even have a little giggle over those who struggle to hit the high notes.

 9.     Bottomless Brunch

Girlfriends + unlimited drinks + delicious food = a good time! Bottomless brunches are a great days activity to simply catch-up or kick start a night out. We recommend heading to Burleigh Pavilion for their amazing ‘Boozy Bottomless Brunch’ matched with stellar ocean views.

 10.  Escape with a girl’s trip

Now we may be a little biased here, but we think the ultimate unique catch up is a girl’s getaway! Whether to a seaside town or the countryside, it is a great way to disconnect from daily life and create new memories with your BFF’s!
